Roco Kingdom Best Starter: Sparka, Cerulla or Meewee?
Sparka, Cerulla or Meewee? A role-based comparison of the three Roco Kingdom starters, with picks for story, PvP and low-effort players.
The short answer: pick Sparka if you want the smoothest story run, Cerulla if you care about PvP and energy-efficient turns, and Meewee if you want a forgiving tank that gets better as fights get longer. None of the three is a trap, and the Chinese launch version lets you capture the other two in a friend's world, so the decision is about the first twenty hours, not the whole account.
This comparison uses the Chinese launch build and the official English starter names. The global beta began on 27 October 2026, and balance can change before release. Treat the grades as role guidance, not as final stats.

The three starters at a glance
| Starter | Type | Early role | Strength | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sparka | Fire | Burst damage, story clearer | Fast clears, strong into grass-heavy routes | Wants energy support if fights drag |
| Cerulla | Water | Sustained damage, PvP pivot | Low skill costs, good defenses, late PvP | Slower early clears |
| Meewee | Grass | Tank, attrition, safety net | Self-healing, high tolerance for mistakes | Least immediate damage |
All three arrive with high talent in the Chinese version, so you are not punished for picking the one you like. The differences show up in team construction, not in the first tutorial fight.
Sparka: the story pick
Sparka is the classic recommendation for a reason. Fire damage clears the early grass-type routes quickly, and the Chinese launch consensus is that Sparka has the highest burst among the three. That burst matters because the first ten hours are a race against Vitality: every extra turn in a wild battle is a resource you do not get back.
Sparka's weakness is the same as its strength. A burst fire attacker spends energy quickly, and if the fight survives the first two turns you are left choosing between a weak attack and a switch. Build a support or a second damage dealer around it rather than expecting Sparka to solo a boss.
Pick Sparka if: you want to finish the story first, you like fast clears, or you do not want to think about energy math in every battle.

Cerulla: the PvP pick
Cerulla is the low-energy, high-stamina option. In the Chinese version its skill costs are forgiving, its defensive and special-attack growth are strong, and it becomes more valuable in PvP once battles slow down. A water starter also gives you a natural answer to fire teams without spending a team slot on a pure counter.
The trade-off is clear speed. Cerulla does not delete a route the way Sparka does, and new players may read that as weakness. It is not: a water Jinie that survives an extra turn can pivot into a better matchup, and pivoting is the core skill of Roco Kingdom PvP.
Pick Cerulla if: you already know you want to play the ladder, you prefer safe turns, or you want a starter that stays relevant without a redesign.
Meewee: the comfort pick
Meewee is the tanky grass starter with self-healing. The Chinese launch version reportedly buffed it, and its niche is attrition: it wins fights by refusing to die rather than by ending them quickly. That makes it the most forgiving choice for a player who is still learning the type wheel and energy management.
The cost is tempo. Meewee's damage is the lowest of the three early, so a Meewee opening can feel slow against timer-heavy content or a boss with a soft enrage. Pair it with a real damage dealer and let Meewee absorb the turns you would otherwise lose to a mistake.
Pick Meewee if: you play defensively, you want a starter that can sit in front of a boss, or you plan to build a stall team later.
The decision matrix
| Your priority | Best pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Fastest story completion | Sparka | Highest early burst and best route coverage |
| PvP long-term | Cerulla | Low energy costs and a strong defensive profile |
| Lowest execution stress | Meewee | Self-healing and high effective health |
| Best mount or traversal start | None of the three | Mounts come from separate captures |
| Collection completion | Any | The other two are catchable later in the CN build |
If you are still unsure, choose Sparka. The early game is balanced around having a damage dealer, and Sparka is the least dependent on a second Jinie to function. You can build Cerulla or Meewee later with a clear role in mind.
What the starter does not decide
Your starter is one slot of six. It does not lock your account's element, your PvP team or your breeding plan. The best team guide explains how to fill the other five slots, and the type matchups guide explains why a single-type starter is rarely enough coverage on its own.
Two practical notes for the first day:
- Do not spend rare balls on a second starter until you know the capture odds. In the Chinese version the unpicked starters appear in a friend's world, which is cheaper than forcing a high-level capture.
- Do not judge the starter by its first evolution. The Chinese version gives each starter a distinct mid-game role, and the global beta may adjust evolution timing.
The global beta is a separate build. If Sparka's damage feels lower than the Chinese launch reports suggest, trust the client you are playing, not this table. The page will be revised when the global values are confirmed.
Where to go next
Once you have picked, the beginner guide covers the first hour, the progression guide covers the level curve, and the best team guide shows how a starter fits a full six.

FAQ
Which starter is best for a beginner? Sparka. It clears the early story fastest and needs the least support to function.
Can I get the other starters later? In the Chinese launch version, yes: the unpicked starters can be captured in a friend's world. Global beta availability is unconfirmed.
Is Cerulla bad in PvE? No. It is slower than Sparka but safer, and its low energy costs make boss fights more forgiving. It is a poor choice only if you want the fastest possible clear.
Do starter natures matter? They matter later, not on day one. A bad nature on a starter is not worth restarting the beta, especially with a data wipe coming.
